Samsung Galaxy S7 launching in India by mid-March

The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge are finally official folks. With this, Samsung has ended the continuous flow of rumors and leaks that we encountered on a daily basis. Expectedly, the two handsets are powerhouses as far as hardware is concerned and are worthy successors to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge.

The Galaxy S7 edge is slightly larger than its flat-display sibling, which will help the customers differentiate between the two. The size difference isn't much though and thanks to the relatively thin bezels on the top as well as the bottom, the company has managed to keep the size at bay and thus increase the screen-to-body ratio. This is something we saw with the Galaxy S6 edge+ as well, so it's nothing new for the Samsung Galaxy series.

The smartphone also comes with water resistance (IP68 certified) and a microSD card slot, which has frankly taken us by surprise. Clearly Samsung has heard from its users over the past one year and has made the hardware changes accordingly.

We're eager to check out the 12MP Dual Pixel camera as well, as this is a first for the company. The cameras on both smartphones come with Optical Image Stabilization or OIS, which enhances camera quality to a great extent. So we're quite excited to check out the camera performance of the two flagships.

The handset will be available with an Exynos 8890 processor while models with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processors will also be sold in certain markets.

Now for the all important question of availability. The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge will be available globally starting March 11 and the company is taking pre-orders for the handsets right away. While Samsung India is yet to disclose pricing information, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge will start from 699 (Rs 53,500) and 799 (Rs 61,100) respectively. But knowing how smartphones are pretty expensive in EU compared to other regions, we expect the Indian pricing to be slightly lower.
